Founded
in Detroit in 1817 and moved to Ann Arbor in 1837, the main campus of
the University of Michigan spans over 2,800 acres, with 208 major buildings
on four primary areas: Central Campus, North Campus, Medical Center, and
South (athletic) Campus. Our campus housing system is the 6th largest
in the United States and includes the 3rd largest family housing operation.
There are 16 residence halls ranging in size from 75 to 1,350 residents
with a total of 5,524 rooms. Approximately 9,700 students reside in our
traditional residence halls.
The
mission of University Housing is to create and sustain diverse learning-centered
residential communities that further the goals of the University. Through
partnerships with others we provide quality programs, services, and facilities
for those we serve in a caring, responsible, and cost-effective manner.
